Labor and Employment

Labor & Employment

Employment law has become an increasingly significant practice area for Lewis Kappes' representation of employers because of legislative expansion of employment rights. Lewis Kappes represents businesses and employers in a variety of employment-related matters. We provide legal advice, precautionary services and litigation representation in judicial and administrative proceedings. Our labor and employment practice includes:

  • Discrimination, harassment and wrongful discharge disputes
  • Employment contracts
  • Collective bargaining and labor relations
  • Benefits and pensions
  • Employee manuals
  • Internet and e-mail policies
  • Covenants not to compete and confidentiality agreements
  • Labor arbitration

Lewis Kappes has handled labor and employment matters in a variety of contexts. Our attorneys have successfully defended clients in proceedings prosecuted by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on multiple occasions. We implemented a strategy to avoid liability on behalf of former officers of a company who wished to form a competing business, and when they were sued anyway we succeeded not only in defending the claim but in establishing that the lawsuit was brought in bad faith. We have enforced non-competition covenants, negotiated collective bargaining agreements and assisted employers in connection with efforts to resist labor organizing efforts.
