Andrew (Andy) Bernlohr is a director in the firm’s education law practice group. Andy joins the Lewis Kappes team with extensive experience in the field of education law and the challenges facing school corporations across the State of Indiana. Andy offers a unique perspective in counseling school corporations, leaning on his experience in both state and local educational systems.
Before joining Lewis Kappes, Andy was executive director and legal counsel to one of the largest school corporations in the state, guiding the district through the complexities of a COVID-19 response as well as critical financial sustainability measures. Andy also previously served as General Counsel at the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). During his time, he worked to advance IDOE legislative and educational policy priorities, ensured department compliance with federal education regulations, as well as state contracting and data sharing procedures.
Prior to working in the education law field, Andy gained significant litigation experience, having worked as a major felony public defender for six years.
